Where Do You Obtain the Fossils?

Fossils can be purchased from the old woman in Olivia's Jewelry Shop at Konikoni City on Akala Island. The old woman sells five fossils of five different ancient Pokémon (depending on your version of the game) for ₽7,000 each. It is noteworthy to know that you can only buy one of each kind of fossil.

In Pokémon Ultra Sun, the old woman in Olivia's Jewelry Shop sells the Cover, Claw, Helix, Jaw, and Skull Fossils. The old woman in Olivia's Jewelry Shop sells the Armor, Dome, Plume, Root, and Sail Fossils. Old Amber is unobtainable in the game, but you can get an Aerodactyl as a gift in Seafolk Village.

If you want to obtain all the mentioned fossils, what you can do is breed your version-exclusive ancient Pokémon and trade them for the other ancient Pokémon that you can't get in your version of the game. Otherwise, you could trade your other rare Pokémon online in exchange for them.

Which Fossil Pokémon Are the Best for Battling?

Collecting all these Pokémon is one goal, but you may be interested in using some of them in competitive battling. Here are some fossil Pokémon that you should consider using in battles.

Omastar

This Pokémon is admittedly a bit tricky to use, but it can be viable. Omastar has amazing defense and special attack stats. It is unfortunately hampered by its horrendously slow speed. It can overcome this if it has the ability Weak Armor. This ability makes it so that any physical attack it takes will lower its defense stat but raise its speed. The move Shell Smash will lower its defense and special defense, but it will sharply raise its attack, special attack, and speed. It's possible to raise Omastar's speed and take advantage of its special attack stat with its solid move pool of water and Rock-type moves. It can even learn some good Ice-type moves to overcome its 4x weakness to grass Pokémon. Raising the speed stat will come at the expense of defense, but that stat is so high that it won't be a big detriment.

Rampardos

This Pokémon has a devastating attack stat of 165. It can cause some serious damage with its physical moves, such as Head Smash or Rock Slide. Unfortunately, its attack stat is all it really has going for it. Rampardos is pretty slow and its defense leaves a lot to be desired as well. As a Rock-type, it has a lot of common weaknesses. If it has the move Endeavor, it can survive taking a big move long enough to deal big damage. This can allow you to finish off an opponent with your next Pokémon.

Archeops

This Pokémon has some pretty impressive stats, most notably its attack, special attack, and speed. It can use some pretty good rock and Flying-type moves, most notably Rock Slide. Unfortunately, it has a massive drawback with its ability Defeatist. When its HP drops to half, its attack and special attack gets reduced to half. Archeops can learn Roost, which restores its HP. However, its defense isn't very high, so any decent attack can probably reduce its HP back down to half. It's best to use this Pokémon to dish out damage in a short time before replacing it.

Tyrantrum

The attack and defense stats on this Pokémon are very impressive. Its speed stat can be raised if it is bred with the move Dragon Dance. The move also raises the attack stat, making Tyrantrum even more devastating. Its ability Strong Jaw can boost the damage of its bite moves while Rock Head can prevent recoil damage. A Tyrantrum with Rock Head using moves like Dragon Dance and Head Smash can be a scary opponent to face. The only Pokémon that could really stand a chance against it would be a powerful Fairy-type.

Aerodactyl

This may be the best fossil Pokémon to use in competitive battling. Aerodactly has impressive speed and attack stats. What makes this fossil Pokémon stand out is that it is the only one that can Mega Evolve. This pushes its attack and speed stat to insane levels. Its ability Tough Claws increases the damage output from moves that make direct contact. It doesn't have many good moves to take advantage of a same type attack bonus with this ability, but its attack stat of 135 makes up for this. Its speed stat of 150 makes it versatile for a lot of vital roles. It can quickly clear stage hazards with Defog or counter opponents with a stalling strategy by using Taunt, which prevents using moves that affect status. It can even use Roost to overcome taking damage after using Taunt. It can also use Rock Slide, which has a decent chance of making opponents flinch. This gives you a chance for two consecutive attacks.

Questions & Answers

Question: In Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, can I get Genesect in Pokemon X while breaking some of the rocks in the cave?

Answer: Nope, that is not true. Genesect can only be obtained through giveaways, codes, special events, or trades from other people or games.

Question: Since I always have school and special bedtimes, what should I do if I want a Lycanroc dusk form? I have the special Rockruff but it won't evolve at the time that it says its supposed to (I have Ultra Moon).

Answer: If it's a special event Rockruff, it will only evolve to what the special event is. For example, if its a special event dusk form Rockruff, it will ONLY evolve into a dusk form Lycancroc. As for the normal Rockruffs you can catch in the game, you can evolve them during the day or the night, depending on what form of Lycancroc you want.

Question: How do I get Genesect?

Answer: You can't because Genesect is a "Mythical" Pokemon. The only way to get it is through a trade with someone who has it, Official Event distributions, and Mystery Gift giveaways.

Question: When I scan barcodes, isn't it suppose to show me the Pokémon?

Answer: Yes, the Pokémon has to show up. Barcodes can be searched easily on Google.
