How to Have One Page Landscape in Word
If you're a Windows OS user, you're no doubt accustomed to working with Microsoft Word. When opening a new document, you've probably noticed that the page orientation is automatically set to Portrait. The format works well for text, but if you need to add an image or a graph, Landscape is a much better fit.
Fortunately, text formatting in Microsoft Word isn't particularly complicated. But changing the default layout on individual pages requires a few extra steps. In this article, we'll show you how to make just one page Landscape in Word.
How to Make a One Page Landscape in Word 2010
When Microsoft released Office 2010, an updated version of Office 2007, it met with glowing reviews. Users were particularly satisfied with the improvements made on MS Word. The most welcomed change was the reintroduction of the File menu, i.e. the Backstage view.
Previous versions also had a few issues with Editing that were resolved with the 2010 upgrade. The new features offer a better understanding of the formatting tools. Certain layout problems were also addressed for the very first time. This refers to the usage of ligatures – the joining of two letters (for example; æ), in particular.
When it comes to changing the page orientation in your Word doc, there are two options. The portrait layout is more elongated and therefore well-suited for text files. However, if you plan on incorporating graphs, columns, or large images, you should switch to Landscape. That way, your pages will be much wider and able to accommodate large-sized files.
Naturally, you can go back and forth between the two. If you don't have that many additions to your text, you can use Portrait for most pages. Those that contain insertions require Landscape though. Here's how to make one page Landscape in Word 2010 by using Section Breaks:
- Click on your Word document to open it.
- Go to the top of the page you want to Landscape, that means if you want to change the layout on Page 4, scroll to the beginning and click there.
- Then, locate Page Layout on the ribbon menu and tap on Breaks.
- Select Next Page from the drop-down menu.
- Open Page Layout and go to Orientation and select Landscape.
- Now, you'll need to reopen the Home tab to turn on paragraph marks. Click on Show/Hide Paragraph Marks, i.e. the ¶ symbol. That gives you an overview of the section break you've created.
- You now have to create another section break. Scroll to the beginning of the following page (in this case Page 5).
- Repeat steps 3-4 to create a new section break. Then, open the Orientation tab again, but this time select Portrait.
Once you're done, everything located between the two section breaks will now have a Landscape layout. Don't forget to change the orientation back to Portrait after the second section break. Otherwise, the following page will also be Landscape.
How to Make a One Page Landscape in Word 2016
Microsoft Office 2016 is the last version that supports older Windows operating systems, like Windows 7 and 8. This includes earlier editions of MS Office, specifically 2003, 2007, and 2010. Much like its predecessors, it introduced several upgrades to Office products.
Many upgrades were made specifically for the new MS Word. Apart from the updated interface, users applauded the new collaboration features. Integration with online storage platforms such as OneDrive was also perfected in this version. Furthermore, Microsoft added a new search tool for locating specific commands.
As far as changing page orientation is concerned, nothing's changed. Just repeat the method from the 2010 installment. You can make a single page Landscape by using the Section Break feature under the Page Layout tab.
However, if you want to avoid adding section breaks to your document manually, there's another way. Here's how to make one page Landscape in Word 2016 by using Page Setup:
- Highlight the content you want to make Landscape.
- Click on the Layout tab on the ribbon menu at the top.
- Now, go to the Page Setup section, it's the little arrow icon in the downward-right corner.
- Then, under Orientation, click on the box that says Landscape.
- At the bottom of the section, click on the Apply to drop-down menu, then Selected text, and confirm by selecting OK.
The highlighted part of your document will now show up on a different page with Landscape orientation. This method is slightly easier because you don't have to add section breaks to your document manually. Microsoft Word will do it for you.
How to Make One Page Landscape in Word 2019
If you're wondering how to make one page Landscape in Word 2019, once again nothing's different. You can use the same two methods from the 2016 and 2010 versions. Meaning you can either add section breaks yourself or let the program do it for you via Page Setup.
How to Make All Pages Landscape in Word
Landscape works best for documents that include tables of contents, data representation, and large image files. The layout is wider than Portrait which means you can add more columns to your spreadsheets and use high-resolution photos.
It's much easier to change the orientation on all the pages, instead of just one. Here's how to make all pages Landscape in Word:
- Go to the Layout section on the ribbon menu.
- Now, click on Orientation.
- From the dropdown menu, select Landscape.
Now your entire document will be formatted in Landscape. This way, you'll have additional space for your files and can include more information.
If you're wondering whether the process is different for MAC laptops, don't worry. Since its initial release in 1983, MS Word has been successfully applied to many other platforms. Almost every text-formatting feature is available to Apple users as well.
In relation to page orientation, the process is the same for macOS as for Windows operating systems.
How to Format Microsoft Word Documents
Each MS Word version includes a selection of advanced text formatting features. Being able to change the orientation of individual pages is just one of its useful characteristics.
Of course, you will use different tools for different types of documents. The interface is neatly organized and pretty much self-explanatory. In general, this is how to format Microsoft Word Documents:
- Highlight the text you want to format. You can select both single words and entire lines.
- Explore the ribbon menu above the workspace and select an option.
The ribbon menu is divided into sections with different types of features. For example, if you want to change the page orientation, click on the "Page Layout" bar. Then you can proceed with the steps mentioned in previous paragraphs.

There Are No Blots on This Landscape
Microsoft Word is considered one of the most popular word processors in the world. Because of its user-friendly interface and many nifty features, it can be found on a wide range of platforms.
Being an integral part of the MS Office software, Word is regularly upgraded every few years. However, regardless of the version, making one page Landscape in your document is always the same. There are two options to choose from – creating section breaks manually or having Word do it for you.
